When it comes to skincare, it’s fair to say that celebrities have a little bit of an advantage over the rest of us. Most have access to particularly expensive products and in many cases, personal one-to-one experts to help them get it right. But the good news is that you don’t necessarily need all that to have wonderfully healthy skin (not least because you can get a fantastic personalised service from us with skincare treatments right here at AP Skincare). In fact, these three women prove that you can go a long way with a healthy outlook and some good habits.
Number one on our list is American actress Liv Tyler, who has long been admired for her clear, and acne-scar-free skin. Understandably, she keeps some aspects of her skincare routine quite close to her chest, but by all accounts, it’s not any individual products or treatments that she regards as the key to her skincare.
Instead, she makes proactive effort to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which spares her skin from a lot of the longer-term damage that can be caused by things like smoking, drinking and sunbeds. She’s also avoided any extreme weight changes, which can affect Hollywood actors in particular, as they can sometimes be asked to gain or lose weight for a role. As they say, the best cure is prevention, and that’s as true for skincare as for anything else – so Tyler shows us how much easier the job of looking after your skin can be if you take the time to look after your general health as well.
If you’re a regular follower of our blog here at AP Skincare, you’ll probably have seen us talk a fair amount about sun protection. Not just in summer, but all year round. Friends star Jennifer Aniston is an excellent case in point, as the actress says she’s always been particularly careful to stay out of the sun when it’s brightest and hottest.
Although Aniston grew up in America – the weather works a little differently there – her point stands for all of us in the relatively mild climates of the UK too. Sunlight can burn you even through cloud, so decent SPF is always a must! British actress Kate Winslet manages to maintain her beautiful skin by unflinchingly sticking to a couple of key rules, including making sure she takes her makeup off before bed, no matter how tired she is. (We talked about that in one of our recent blogs, and explained in a little bit more detail about how it can damage your skin.)
Her skincare routine isn’t particularly intensive, but she’s certainly very efficient apparently, as she’s generally done in just a few minutes before being out the door. You can read the full interview with her in Vogue, but one of our personal favourites quotes is to do with her overall attitude. She’s learned that ‘health comes before reaching for a mirror or a bottle of product’, and says that she feels at her most beautiful when she’s being a good mum, or doing the best in her job and her family. It’s a refreshingly honest approach, and they’re certainly words to live by!
