At AP Skincare, we want you to have lovely and radiant skin no matter your skin type. But, if you have dry skin it can be difficult to find the best products to reduce the visual effects of ageing without causing breakouts or making your skin to be oily.
Generally speaking, if you have dry skin only sometimes, the easiest thing you can do is drink more water!
Though, if you have more persistent dry skin, it might be best to look for a range of products with specific ingredients to help add moisture back into your skin cells. You can tackle ageing and dry skin issues through a simple three-prong approach: prevention, light exfoliation, and repair.
When you are looking for anti-ageing or skincare products – read the label. The best ingredients common in many anti-ageing products are collagen, retinol, Vitamin C and E, and antioxidants.
To help guide you through the vast number of anti-ageing products on the market, we’ve developed this guide to help those with dry skin select products to improve the health and appearance of your skin.
Prevention is by far the best thing you can do to protect your skin against the appearance of wrinkles and to keep it properly hydrated. By adding sunscreen to your skincare regimen it can help prevent your skin from developing further lines, dryness, and wrinkles.
Many skin products including moisturisers and even some foundations come with some level of UV protection. Be sure to check your products before buying and try to select one with the highest SPF.
If buying on its own, remember to select a sunscreen with the right level of SPF for your skin – we recommend always using a sunscreen with at least 50 SPF even on cloudy days for those with fair or ageing skin.
Applying sunscreen regularly can help reduce wrinkles or dryness caused by sun damage.
At AP Skincare, we suggest people should cleanse their face twice daily to remove dead skin cells, dirt, oil, and bacteria. Though, this might need to be reduced to once a day or every other day if you have dry skin – to prevent it from drying too much.
Lots of anti-ageing cleansers on the market use acid or alcohols to remove dead skin cells. The best cleansers for dry skin contain hyaluronic acid because it is naturally occurring in the human body and keeps your skin hydrated – thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
If you can’t find a cleanser with hyaluronic acid, then try to select one with a moisturising ingredient like aloe, almond oil, or Vitamin B, E or C in it to prevent it from being dried out.
Last, but not least, is the repair stage. Choosing the best moisturiser and serum may take a bit of time because you will want the products to complement each other and work together to protect your skin.
To find the best face serum to reduce wrinkles you’ll want to immediately rule out those that are packaged in a pot with a lid. Why? Because many of the antioxidants and hydrating ingredients can lose effectiveness over time when exposed to air. Choose an anti-wrinkle serum with an airtight pump to maximise the effectiveness and longevity of the product. Be sure to look for moisturisers or serums with retinol and Vitamin E.
When selecting the best moisturiser for dry skin, it is important to choose one with hyaluronic acid. As we have discussed, hyaluronic acid can help your skin cells retain more moisture leaving it looking young, fresh, and hydrated.
Other ingredients you may want to consider in your moisturiser are collagen, vitamin C, glycolic acid, retinol, aloe, shea butter, salicylic acid, and alpha-hydroxy acids.
Another way to get additional moisture into your skin is through using weekly face masks. Or you could use an anti-wrinkle eye cream with retinol at night to help boost collagen production and to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
