The ancient art of facial mapping splits the face and neck into 14 zones, all of which correspond to different areas of your body that may be to blame for troublesome health issues.
Pesky breakouts and pimples may say more than you think about your skincare regime and overall health.
According to Ayurvedic tradition, our body’s surface maps and reflects our inner health and can highlight problem health issues that need to be addressed.
Of course, just because you typically get spots in an area linked to your liver, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a problem with your liver, or that you’re doing something to damage it.
The spots could simply be a result of pollution, humidity, irritation from facial products or clogged pores.
However, it is worth keeping an open mind if breakouts regularly occur in a specific zone as it may be revealing something very important about your overall health.
Linked to: Digestive system
Spots in this area are largely linked to the theory that you are what you eat.
High amounts of bad fats and sugars can lead to a breakout in this area.
To keep your skin pimple-free, opt for a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals and cleanse your body with green tea and plenty of water.
Linked to: Liver
If you suffer from an outbreak in this area it may be worth asking yourself about your alcohol consumption. Allergies and intolerance such as lactose intolerance may also be to blame.
Limit your consumption and keep notes in a food diary to help you discover the cause.
Linked to: Kidneys
Spots close to your ears and problem skin around the eyes may well be telling you that you need to increase your water intake.
Cut down on anything that may be dehydrating you – like caffeine and alcohol – and up your water intake to two litres a day.
Linked to: Respiratory system
Smoking can be one of the main causes of spots in this area but your respiratory system isn’t just affected by bad habits.
Lack of fresh air can also affect your respiratory system, so it may just be you need to make sure you get out daily and enjoy some fresh air.
Linked to: Heart
While this may sound worrying there are plenty of reasons why you might get a breakout around your nose.
While high blood pressure is most certainly a potential cause, dirty make-up brushes and rosacea can also be a cause.
Linked to: Hormones
We’ve all had them, those spots that seem to linger and can’t be squeezed sat along our jawline.
Often a result of hormonal imbalance and stress (and possibly digestive issues if in the chin area), spots in these zones can be hard to avoid.
Reducing your stress levels and overall health with meditation, exercise and eating well will certainly help though.
Linked to: Illness
Spots in this zone may be telling you to slow down as your immune system is under attack. Try to relax, eat healthy food and up your intake of vitamin C to help your body to recover quickly.
